The 2022 Canadian Architect Awards were announced! Cœur Nomade Library and Cultural Center in partnership with Coarchitecture won a Canadian Architect Award of Merit! A huge thank you to Canadian Architect and the jury and congratulations to all the co-winners.

The Casavant High School expansion project is the result of the recycling and major transformation of the Girouard wing of the former Saint-Hyacinthe Seminary.

We are pleased to announce our success in the multidisciplinary architectural competition for the Coeur-Nomade Library and Cultural space.
This institutional space serves the population of Ahuntsic-Cartierville and Montreal-North. “The team understood the vision expressed in the competition program and submitted a design that fulfilled its objectives and values, i.e., a project that is structure-enhancing, integrative, dynamic, inspiring and welcoming.” Design Montreal
Project realized in partnership with Coarchitecture as well as engineers and consultants ARUP, Martin Roy & associés, François Courville Paysage and Espace Mushagalusa.

Start of project
Influential modernist architecture resulting from an architectural competition, this project was inaugurated in 1964. The project was carried out by the firm Affleck Desbarats Lebensold and Sise, which became ARCOP in the following years. At home, Affleck de la Riva, two new generations of Affleck architects are working on the project.

Start of construction work
The project includes the replacement of the glass units, the restoration of its wood elements, the repair of the structure, as well as a new landscaping.
Project carried out with professionals from MRA in electromechanics, HBGC for structure and civil, and Heta for landscaping. General contractor SDT won the construction contract.

Project in submission
This major project, carried out with our partners Boulianne Charpentier, ensures the recycling of the Girouard Wing of the old seminary and several development works.

The Montreal Gazette daily publishes the article “The Glass House on a Hill” on the Lansdowne House, a project that draws on Westmount’s long tradition of exemplary modern architecture.

Award
The Côte-Des-Neiges Intercultural Library is one of the winning buildings for the Building Energy Challenge (BEC) launched mainly by Boma Quebec. BEC is an innovative and friendly competition aimed at reducing the energy consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of buildings.
Obtaining this mention was made possible thanks to the great collaboration of the firms Affleck de la Riva, WSP and Axino who, from the beginning and until the end of the project, always maintained a high quality work.

The square des Frères-Charon won the CAA 2A Prize in the “urban projects” category. 2A CAA pays tribute to architecture and architects who have produced regular and outstanding contributions to their communities and the built environment using art and architecture.

Conference presented by Richard de la Riva
Richard gave a lecture entitled “The City Hall : Designing Democracy” during the Interaction Forum of 2ACAA 2019 organized by the 2A Magazine and presented at the Polytechnic University of Madrid (Spain).

Permanent exhibition at the Biosphere
The Biosphère, Museum of the Environment invited design-architecture firms to share their visions to reuse major infrastructures. Together, they have dreamed up an attractive and vibrant metropolis. Each project is a plus for society and a plus for the environment. Affleck de la Riva presents “The park of meta-consciousness.”

Architectural and Urban Development Exhibition
Our urban design project in UQAM’s Place Pasteur sector has been chosen by the City of Montreal to be part of this unique event. It will highlight buildings and infrastructure projects (commercial, residential, mixed use, institutional, governmental) that will change the face of Montreal in the years to come.
The 7th edition of the exhibition opened to the public at 1250 René Lévesque Blvd. from May 29 to June 4, 2019.
Distinction
The project to convert and expand the former Convent of Saint-Roch-de-l’Achigan into a city hall was awarded the North American Copper in Architecture Award in the restoration category.

The mobilisation of the construction site for the complete restoration of the exterior envelope has begun. The scope of work includes decontamination, insolation and new fenestration.

Richard gave a lecture entitled “The Heritage estate of La Visitation, a project of continuous restoration told through the eyes of history” during this event organized by the Conseil des métiers d’art du Québec (CMAQ) and presented at the Bonsecours Market, in Old Montreal.

Distinction
The church of La Visitation-de-la-Bienheureuse-Vierge-Marie was awarded the 2018 restauration prize by the Conseil du patrimoine Religieux du Québec.
Congratulation to the whole team who contributed to the project and demonstrated impressive craftsmanship, skill and patience.

Work in progress
The second and third phases of the restoration of the Saint-Hyacinthe public market are underway. The works involves the replacement of the exterior brick layer, the restoration of the tinsmith of the roof, the consolidation of the lumber structure, and the integration of exterior lighting. Completed earlier this year, the first phase involved important foundation works, the interior planning of the basement and important electric and mechanical installations.

Work Completed
The first phase of the Saint-Régis masonry restoration is almost complete. The work includes the restoration of the masonry of the Nova Scotia Wallace sandstone facade and the refurbishment of the tinsmith on the roof cornices. Affleck de la Riva coordinated the work and took in charge the documentation to obtain important subsidies for the client.

Completed in 1751, the church of La Visitation-de-la-Bienheureuse-Vierge-Marie is one of the oldest churches of Montreal. Affleck de la Riva architects is coordinating the restoration of the interior finishes – an impressive demonstration of craftsmanship, skill and patience.

Competition
Affleck de la Riva ranks amongst the four finalists for the architecture competition launched by the St-Joseph Oratory. The project includes the design of the inner dome of the basilica and the interiors of the museum.

Inauguration
The modest building, located in the heart of Rigaud’s downtown at 106 Saint-Viateur St., is Rigaud’s first purpose-built town hall. It is a sleek and modern rectangle, with a row of white columns supporting the section of the building where council meetings are held.

Fifteen years ago, Molson had hired Affleck de la Riva to prepare a scenario of restauration and conservation of its urban ensemble. The office had drawn a masterplan that is still very topical in 2017.

Distinction
The restoration of Montreal City Hall project is honored amongst the top 10 NACIA award winners from the last decade.

Competition
Affleck de la Riva + Henri Cleinge architecte are selected amongst the four finalists for the Bibliothèque St-Sulpice architecture competition. The other finalists are Chevalier Morales + Boudreau Fortin Huot, Hanganu + EVOQ architectes and in situ atelir d’architecture + DMA Architectes.

Canadian Architect publishes an article on Brossard City Hall, an undergoing restauration project that entertains an interesting lesson on cultural acceleration and the place of history in architecture.

Retrospective on the revitalization of Cabot Square; an iconic public space of Montreal’s city center. The project ensures the maintenance of an inclusive, sustainable, and resilient urban environment.

Conference
For the upcoming Mardi Vert, Gavin Affleck will present the project Quartier 21 – Peter McGill that includes the adaptive reuse of the Victoria School and the refurbishment of its city block. The project combines sustainable development and heritage restauration and was award many distinctions including the LEED silver certification.

Conference
As part of the Award of Excellence in 2013 architecture, the Order of Architects is organizing a marathon architecture to showcase the winning projects. Richard de la Riva will present the project of the City Hall of Montreal, winner in the category Conservation and restoration.
The event will be held in the Great Library of Montreal on June 19 at 18pm.

Conference
During the National Conference and Expo 2014 Green Building Council of Canada, which will have as theme “Building a sustainable change,” Gavin Affleck will lecture on urban sustainable development project Quartier 21 Peter McGill. The program this year will include new data relating to the analysis of profitability and performance green buildings, and on the expanded value proposition of green building.
Distinction
Every year, the RAIC College of Fellows officially recognizes members who have contributed to the profession. Gavin Affleck received the title of RAIC Fellow at the ceremony that took place during the Winnipeg Architecture Festival on may 29th 2014.
Implication
Richard de la Riva was member of the committee of the Commonwealth Association of Architects who was named to certify the undergraduate and graduate programs of the University of Sciences and Technologies School of Architecture in Kwame Nkrumah (KNUST).

Distinction
The Montreal City Hall restauration is winner in the restoration and conservation category for the 2013 OAQ prize of excellence. The jury acclaims the project for the attention given to details, the technical challenge and the collaborative work between architects and craftsmen.
